We are very pleased to announce that Monash Absolute Investment Company Limited has won ‘Best Listed Alternative Investment Product’ at the Hedge Funds Rock and the Australian Alternative Investment Awards 2020.
The MA1 Board and Monash Investors are very proud to have won this award in what has been a very challenging market for fund managers. Our differentiated approach is designed to act as a satellite investment for those advisers that like to manage direct equities on behalf of their clients or for those investors that want something different. The Monash Investors investment strategy has many unique features including the ability to invest both long and short (with long bias), hold cash, is benchmark unaware, concentrated, is both stock size and style agnostic and very active.
The investment strategy aims to deliver good returns over the long term, whilst limiting capital losses over the medium term. The firm was established by industry veterans Simon Shields, who was the ex-head of equities for UBS and Colonial First State and Shane Fitzgerald, also from UBS and JPMorgan/Ord Minnett.
About the award criteria
The Australian Hedge Fund + Alternative Investment Awards recognise managers who display performance in keeping with the objectives of the investment industry. This includes consistent, competitive risk-adjusted returns independent of the direction of financial markets. In addition, the awards favour managers meeting basic operational due diligence requirements including adequately resourced infrastructure, funds under management and available products in the Australian market.
Initial manager rankings are determined by a quantitive ranking of performance data derived from a comprehensive database of managers. Quantitive criteria include Sortino ratio and maximum drawdown factors. These initial rankings are then screened for qualitative operational criteria. Managers who do not meet the operational standards are excluded, notwithstanding their quantitive ranking. The final rankings therefore include only those firms which meet both the quantitive and qualitative criteria.
